Objective
Toyota aimed to provide secure, seamless identity and access management across its personalized telematics services—accessible via both online customer portals and in-car systems. The solution had to be scalable, standards-based, and allow integration with Toyota’s broader digital ecosystem. Supporting OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 was essential to enable future-proof social login and flexible user authentication.
Challenge
Toyota needed to unify access across its My Toyota customer portal and in-car systems while maintaining secure and user-friendly authentication. The solution also had to be scalable, support two-factor authentication, and integrate with Toyota’s B2B and B2C apps.

Solution
Toyota selected Ping for its ability to deliver secure, standards-based access for both users and vehicles. With built-in support for OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, and REST APIs, Ping allowed seamless integration with Toyota’s customer-facing applications.
The in-car authentication experience mirrors the customer portal, enabling consistent branding and secure credential reuse. Two-factor authentication happens dynamically—using the vehicle as a second factor—without requiring users to enter an additional code.
Toyota has also deployed Ping across its B2B portal, connecting dealers, suppliers, and partners in 42 countries. This ensures secure access to mission-critical business systems such as parts ordering and warranty management.
