The Objective

One of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers and defense contractors was seeing continued growth and industry leadership, resulting in an increasing number of identity records for employees, retirees, and third-party contractors. To keep pace and reduce complexity, the company needed to modernize its identity and access management (IAM) capabilities. Additionally, the high confidentiality of its contracts, particularly with government organizations, including NASA and the military, required stringent security.

The Challenge

Ongoing outages from legacy Oracle and Sun systems were impacting day-to-day operations that rely heavily on identity data. Legacy directories couldn’t scale to support the growing number of identities, and existing capabilities limited the ability to implement data access governance and security best practices. In addition, aging systems were complex and expensive to manage, and didn’t offer the flexibility needed for modern apps and cloud-based architectures.

The Solution

The Ping Identity Platform: Modernization of the legacy IAM systems with a phased transition to the new identity and access management capabilities of the Ping Identity Platform.

The Results

Web-scale performance and millisecond response times to support more than 100 million identities with capacity for growth. End-to-end data encryption and data access security protect employee identities and external entities including contractors. Reduced operational costs and hardware footprint lower the total cost of ownership. Business operations experienced little to no impact during migration to the new system and greatly improved extensibility and flexibility easily supported new cloud application deployments.
